The Morristown Project

ABOUT
I grew up on Farragut Place, right across the street from the Kellogg Club. I graduated from Morristown High in 1989, and went on to the University of Michigan before transferring to Brown. I graduated in 1993 with Honors in Intellectual History and my teaching certification.

Growing up, my name was Katie Lynch, but, when I got married in 1996, "Katie McCabe" was too much for me, so I started going with Kate, instead. I taught at Morristown High from 1996-2001, and after I left, I taught for another nine years before becoming an administrator.

I retired in 2019 but it doesn't feel like retirement; it just feels like I've finally graduated. With my kids grown and flown, I have time to dig into the history of my home town.

I can't get away from the notion that every important aspect of American history is woven through the lives of the people of Morristown. But, having taught history for nearly twenty years, I know all too well that the history books are woefully incomplete.

This project is an attempt to redress that grievance, to bring together the disparate voices into one song, however discordant that might be, for now.
The history of Morristown is the story of America.
